Line Acquisition Update

8th. Apr. 2008

It has been reported in the local press that the sale of the trackbed from Gobowen to Blodwell by Shropshire County Council from Network Rail should be completed in the next week or two. This will enable the Trust and the Society to acquire long term leases on the trackbed, and a start on the main line towards Oswestry can begin in earnest. Details will be posted on the site as soon as we get them.

Stream Re-routed - II

23rd. Mar. 2008

P3010037

Below you can see how the trackbed has been widened to allow the point off the main line (up until now ‘hanging’ in mid air !) to be extended towards the end of haystack siding, and via a point into the new shed yard.

With the stream moved it was necessary to widen the neck of the yard to allow extra lines into the shed site. This meant extending a culvert that currently only went under the main line. Above you can see the pipework in place and in the process of being covered with spoil from elsewhere in the yard.

Stream Re-routed - I

12th. Mar. 2008

The Trusts plans for a carriage shed moved a step closer with the path of the stream being re-routed away from the proposed site of the shed. Below can be seen the new stream in full flow, the old route was the other side of the trees to the right. Nature should very quickly cover the banks of the stream sides.

On the other side of the trees can be seen the enlarged and cleared area created by moving the stream. Haystack siding is on the right.

Plans for new Halt approved by Council

2nd. Feb. 2008

Halt

Oswestry Borough Council have given us permission to construct a Halt on the site at Pen-Y-Garreg Lane. This will provide a means of people alighting at the end of the line, and to explore the local area before returning to Llynclys. One way tickets for cyclists or ramblers may also be provided.

Development of the site will be reported here.

CRT Plans in the News

25th. Jan. 2008

The Trust have recently been in the news, when representatives met officials of the Welsh Assembly. The purpose of this meeting was to notify them of possible future plans to extend our line, into Wales, towards Welshpool. Although we may not be heading that way for a few years yet, we feel it is important to protect the trackbed from future alternative development. Following the plans being supported “in principle” by the Welsh Assembly officials, a letter asking Powys County Council has been sent asking the council to issue a protection notice. A report from ITV Wales was transmitted on “Wales Tonight”, which can be seen Here.
