Adopt-a-Wagon

At present we have a total of 20 Goods and Departmental wagons on site at Llynclys, in addition to the 13 items of assorted coaching stock.

With the exception of the two “Dogfish” used on the ballast train, and the Mink D Box van, the vast majority look in very poor condition and are not a very good advertisment for our railway.

Not everyone is able, for one reason or another, to help with a lot of the tasks around the railway, so it has been decided to run an Adopt-a-Wagon scheme, whereby members can identify themselves with a specific piece of rolling stock and in their own time replace woodwork, rub down and paint the vehicle. It is hoped that, where possible, members will be able to provide materials themselves (unless, of course, major rebuilding is required)

A sign of what can be done with a coat of paint, is the two Dogfish wagons used on our ballast train.

Should anyone be interested in this worthwhile scheme, could they contact Brian Rowe, our Volunteer Liaison Officer, on 01691 670916. Or personally on-site most weekends.

Signs of active repair and renovation will hopefully encourage others to join the Trust.

The GWR “Starfish” ash wagon, has already been adopted, and improvements can be seen here in its paintwork.
